Time Lapse Photography Ideas

Time Lapse Photography Ideas

You don't have to be a director or own a video camera to be the director of a film. Many photographers create their own mini films by using a still photography camera to capture frame after frame of the same scene. Put the frames together into a timeline and they act like a short film.

Work in Progress

Use time lapse photography to give a different perspective of artworks in progress. Street artists and graffiti writers have used time lapse photography to document the changes that their artworks go through as the works are going up on a wall. The audience gets a look at the painting through all of its stages of application. Set up a camera on a tripod in a place that captures all of the action in one frame. Don't worry about the artists getting in between the camera and the artwork as it adds a sense of the craftsmanship that goes into the work.

Long Term Portrait

Noah Kalina became famous for his series called "Everyday" in which he takes a photo portrait of himself each day. Once the project reached 400 photos, Noah put them together in chronological order to create a short film. Do the same by taking self portraits with a web cam or a stills camera that is set up to frame the portrait in the same way each day. Once put together in a time lapse film, the images will show the idiosyncratic differences that occur in a portrait from one day to the next.

Multilens Time Lapse

A multi-lens camera, such as Lomography's Oktomat and Sampler cameras, replicate the time lapse effect by exposing a fraction of a frame over a burst of multiple exposures, one through each lens. The time frame is limited but as all of the images are combined on one frame, the action is concentrated. Capture a couple seconds of action, like a slam dunk, a friend swinging on a swing set, or a back flip.

Nature in Bloom

Time lapse is often used in nature documentaries to indicate the passing of time at a telescoped pace so that a certain view may be seen changing between day and night or from one season to the next. Affix a macro lens to the camera and focus it on some blades of grass or a flower, both of which will start to show growth within a day. Use a telephoto lens and focus it on a mountain or valley scene and over the course of a month, you will have a mini film that documents the drama of the changing landscape and rolling clouds.

How to Shoot Shadow Shapes in a Photo Studio

How to Shoot Shadow Shapes in a Photo Studio

Shadow shapes or silhouettes create striking photographs when done correctly. Silhouettes are fairly easy to capture with lighting equipment commonly found in a photo studio. The main formula behind creating a silhouette is using backlighting. You have options as to which types of lights you can use and whether a backdrop is necessary. Digital cameras take the guesswork out of this process, but with the right steps, film can be effectively used with minimal error. "Are you looking to know digital photography techniques that carry skilled photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques could guide you out in doing so. To get impressive photos we first need to have to look at some fundamental photography techniques. The most important one I am able to share with you is uncover about light. You can discover everything about photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Whenever you discover about light and in what technique it interacts with the direct environment then your pictures will get improved..".

Instructions

    1

Choose a subject with a distinct shape. Overlapping multiple subjects can appear too bulky and may cause confusion. Because the subject will be in shadow, no color or internal details will be visible, so the shape must be strong or recognizable. Think creatively about negative space when composing in order to make the white space look just as interesting as your shadow.

    2

Use a softbox if it is available and works with your composition. Some softboxes are very large, so you may be able to fit your subject within the confines of the box and keep its edges out of the photograph. If you have a small subject or are cropping your image with a long lens, this type of light works well.

    3

Try photofloods and a light-colored backdrop if a softbox is not available. With an opaque white backdrop, point two photoflood lights at the backdrop at about 45-degree angles. If the backdrop is translucent, try placing the lights behind it, but out of direct view of the composition. Experiment with the angle of the lights to create the most even light and as bright a light as possible.

    4

Take a meter reading off of your background, not your subject, to create a silhouette. Because of the amount of light being reflected directly towards the camera, following your light meter's initial reading will likely already begin to cast your subject into shadow. This may not be the case, however, if your meter is center-weighted and your subject occupies much of the center of the composition. With a digital camera you can preview your results and make adjustments on the side of the underexposure that will create shadow shapes.

    5

Take care to meter definitely from the background light if you are using film. Previewing the lighting with a separate camera loaded with Polaroid film can save you on regular film in the long run. Bracketing on the side of underexposure is highly recommended.

How to Fix Pixelated Photos

How to Fix Pixelated Photos

If you have ever tried to resize a small photo to make it bigger, you have encountered the problem of a pixelated photo. "Do you want to understand digital photography approaches that carry professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would support you out in doing so. To obtain impressive photos we first need to look at some essential photography methods. The initial one I am able to share with you is identify about light. You can obtain all the things concerning photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you uncover about light and in what way it interacts with the direct environment then your shots will get superior..". Pixelation makes a photo appear "boxy" and makes the objects or people in the image look distorted. Depending on how severe the photo's pixelation is, you may be able to fix this problem with a photo-editing program that has certain effects and features. Your photos will look as good as new.

Instructions

    1

Open the pixelated photo in a photo-editing program such as Paint.NET (which is free to download), Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop, or resize the small picture to the larger size that you want ("Image" and then "Resize" in the top menu). Type in the new dimensions in the width and height text boxes and click "OK." All three of these programs have the basic features you need for this project.

    2

Go to the top menu and select "Effects," "Blurs" and then "Unfocus" (Paint.NET) or click on the "Soften" tool in the toolbox (Paint Shop Pro). Adjust the intensity or the opacity of the blur by sliding the arrow along the scale. Click "OK" to blur the image or click on the photo with the soften tool to apply it.

    3

Select "Effects," "Photo" and then Sharpen" (Paint.NET) or "Sharpness" (Paint Shop Pro). Adjust the sharpening tool to the strength that you need to make the edges sharp and crisp once again. Save the non-pixelated picture to your computer.

How to Get a Patent for a Photograph

How to Get a Patent for a Photograph

If you are a photographer or any kind of artist, you understand the frustrations public display of your work can cause, especially on the Internet. If you want to protect your artwork and photographs, you can register to copyright them. To copyright and protect your work, you must file each piece of artwork separately or as one group when filing for trademark and copyright protection.

Instructions

    1

Visit the official copyright website at copyright.gov.

    2

Register for your copyright online by using the service listed on the official website. The online filing fee is generally lower than the offline filing fee and as of 2010 is $35 per copyright filing request. Online filing offers the quickest turnaround processing as well as online tracking to have a real-time update on your copyrighting process. The website allows payment through major credit and debit cards, as well as an electronic check or Copyright Office deposit account. Follow the on-screen instructions for filing your copyright on the official registering website.

    3

Register for your copyright an alternative way by using the "Form CO" system at the Copyright Office website. These forms feature a barcode scan that allows quicker processing than the traditional paper form method. Print out your forms once you have purchased and completed them, and send them in. "Do you need to understand digital photography techniques that bring experienced photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would guide you out in doing so. To find stunning photos we primary need to look at some essential photography strategies. The primary one I am able to share with you is determine about light. You can discover everything concerning photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Whenever you find out about light and in what approach it interacts with the direct environment then your photos will get improved..". The "Form CO" method will cost $50 as of 2010 and can be mailed to the Copyright Office along with a check or money order to be processed.

    4

Send in paper forms to file a copyright request if you cannot use the online services or prefer this method. Submitting paper forms takes the longest for the Copyright Office to manage and file due to the manual nature of the processing system with the paper forms. You can pay for your paper forms by check or money order at $65 a request as of 2010. The paper forms are not accessible directly on the website, but you can fill out a "request form" to have them mailed to your physical home address using the Copyright's official website. You can then mail them back to the Copyright Office to begin your copyright on your photographs.
