Photo Copyright Law

Photo Copyright Law

In the past, photo labs would agree to make printsw from negatives or reproductions of photos in the belief that you probably had the right to reproduce those images. However, many hoto labs are looking out for photos that appear to have been taken by a photographer other than the customer or pilfered from the Internet. Photo labs are refusing to reproduce photos that fall into these categories because photographers have sued photo labs for failing to uphold copyright laws, according to Brian Bergstein's article "Copyright-Worried Labs Reject Some Digital Printing Jobs" on USAToday.com.

Identification

The Constitution and the Federal Copyright Act provide copyright protection to authors for such original works as photographs. "Do you want to know digital photography methods that bring expert photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques might assist you out in doing so. To get spectacular pictures we primary need to have to look at some basic photography techniques. The most important one I am able to share with you is identify about light. You can discover every little thing about photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you find out about light and in what approach it interacts with the direct environment then your images will get more beneficial..". The creator of a photograph is thus the owner of the copyright.

Protected Rights

Copyright holders have the the right to make copies of their work, prepare other works based on those works, distribute copies of their work to the public by sales, lease, rental or lending, and to publicly perform and display their work.

Photo Reproduction

A photo lab or shop has the right to refuse to reproduce old family photographs. Whether the store owners knew they were violating copyright law by copying the image, they can still be liable for any copyright violations, according to U.S. Copyright Office.

Fair Use

The difference between "fair use" and copyright infringement can be unclear. The Copyright Office says the factors used by courts to determine the difference include the purpose and character of the use, the nature of the work, how much of the original was used, and the effect of the use on the potential market for the copyrighted work.

Public Domain

Photos that are in the public domain are not protected by copyright laws and can be used without permission or the payment of fees. Images enter the public domain after the copyright has expired, if the image is a work of the U.S. government, or the copyright holder fails to satisfy copyright formalities, according to Lolly Gasaway's article "When U.S. Works Fall into the Public Domain."

Sewing: How to Make an SLR Camera Bag

The SLR camera is one of the dominant cameras used by professional photographers because of the range of focal lengths allowed by the camera, allowing the photographer to get the right shot. When a serious photographer ventures outside to find worthwhile subjects to photograph, an SLR camera bag is handy when keeping all the equipment together, such as filters. It also can protect the camera from moisture and damage.

Instructions

    1

Plan the design of the SLR camera bag. Determine what you will store in the bag, which will help you plan for the size of the compartments. Determine how you will carry the bag. A shoulder bag lets you carry a large amount of equipment and quickly lower the bag when you are ready to take your equipment out. Sling bags are smaller and let you quickly remove equipment without taking off the bag, since a strap comes across your chest. Backpacks are evenly distributed across your back and shoulders, though removing the backpack takes longer.

    2

Find a durable material resistant to moisture to make your bag out of. Your camera and equipment are vulnerable to water, so the material should protect the camera from rain.

    3

Draw the dimensions of the SLR camera bag on tracing paper, to aid you in cutting out the fabric needed for the bag.

    4

Place the fabric on the tracing paper and use the tracing paper to cut the outline of the SLR bag. Lift up the fabric while cutting so you do not accidentally cut the tracing paper since you will repeat this step. Cut a second piece of fabric.

    5

Sew the right and left sides of the bag together. Then, rearrange the bag so one seam is in the center and the other seam is resting on the table, out of view. Sew the bottom of the bag together.

    6

Fold the bottom corners together and sew them so there are no openings in the bag.

    7

Cut squares of fabric out for the pockets. Cut a piece of fabric for each SLR piece of equipment that you want to carry. To ensure that the piece will fit, place it in the spot where you want it to sit and place the fabric square over it. Then, sew the fabric square to the bag, leaving the top part open to remove the equipment.

    8

Flip the SLR bag inside out.

Types of Creative Photo Finishing

Types of Creative Photo Finishing

Modern digital cameras and imaging technology make the technique of taking pictures as important as the subject. There are pieces of computer software that can help you turn a basic but well taken photograph and turn it into a piece of credible art. Photo finishing can be applied to anything from buildings to landscapes, faces and still life to people moving and even poorly exposed night shots.

Panorama

Although the technique of splicing together several different photographs of the same subject into one large collage has been around for some time, the standard of image you can create now is much higher. Panoramic work in 3-D is becoming popular with enthusiasts, software developers and the general public. It takes skill to get it right, but the results are spectacular. A static, full 360-degree circle of photography can be shot using a digital camera and, as noted on the culture blog Web Urbanist, even 3-D motion images viewable only on computer are possible.

Infrared

Buying a used DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera and using it to convert into an infrared capture device is relatively inexpensive, as explained on the website Photo Focus. They can be picked up for around $200, as of 2011, and converted at a small cost by rare companies such as Life Pixel (U.S.), Camera Clinic (Australia) or Protech (United Kingdom), as described on the art website Red Bubble. When the conversion is complete, any subject makes a good photograph because the technique itself is so versatile, and any image can be transformed into something special. Landscapes are considered particularly attractive using infrared capture because the leaves on the trees turn a dusky white.

Film Quality

The FinePix X100 digital camera, made by Fujifilm, is taking photography to a new level. This camera is unique in its ability to create film quality images previously only seen in the film industry, as claimed by Fujifilm. The difference between this type of photo and an ordinary one is that the colors can be saturated and enhanced without a loss of clarity or professionalism. A true color image can be developed successfully, too, with simple but striking results. The camera also takes other types of creative shots, such as monochromatic filtered images and enhanced dynamic range images.

Time Lapse

One of the most experimental techniques and one that can produce some creative shots, time lapse is an important finishing technique. "Are you looking to learn digital photography solutions that deliver professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would likely assist you out in doing so. To find amazing pictures we first want to look at some essential photography strategies. The primary one I am able to share with you is find out about light. You can find everything regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you uncover about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your photos will get superior..". With all the latest advances in technology, the image process starts on the digital camera and gets uploaded onto a computer, where the finishing touches are added. To create a time lapse image, the camera is set to a mode where it sits in one place, then takes a series of shots a certain time apart. When these are stitched together using software, such as Photoshop, Card Tricks or Stereo Data Maker, a special set of images are created. They can be fed together into a movie or displayed as an exhibition-style series in the order they were taken.

What Are Digital Archival Prints?

The prints you get back from the local photo printer may put a smile on the face of grandma or grandpa but would be unsuitable for hanging in a gallery, and not necessarily because of the artistic merits of the photograph but because of how the photograph was printed. Art galleries, collectors and museums require photographic prints to be archival quality, meaning they will last for many years without fading or deteriorating.

What is meant by archival?

An archival-quality print is one that will retain its true colors after years of exposure to light. "Do you want to know digital photography approaches that bring skilled photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would help you out in doing so. To become impressive images we primary want to look at some essential photography strategies. The primary one I am able to share with you is identify about light. You can discover all the things about photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you find out about light and in what way it interacts with the direct environment then your photos will get more beneficial..". The dyes used to print a photograph on paper react with light, humidity and pollutants in the air, and over time these elements can fade or stain the dyes. Different dyes and papers react differently and are capable of retaining an acceptable appearance for longer periods of time. However, there is no standard test for calling a print archival, with only a consensus that prints guaranteed to last over one hundred years without fading can generally be called archival.

Before digital prints

Before digital photography and digital printing appeared on the scene, there was little concern over labeling a print archival. Traditional photographic printing and the subsequent labeling of the print was enough to satisfy the art dealer or museum curator. Labels such as "platinum print" included the method of production in the name and assured collectors of the permanence of the print. This partly had to do with the fact there are a limited number of photographic papers, using a limited number of materials, available with manufacturers' guarantees of permanence based on testing by the manufacturer.

The digital print

Digital prints suffer from having too many variables in the production process. There is a wide range of papers and inks to choose from with each varying in permanence and archival qualities. Because of these variables, it has become necessary to label digital prints as archival to assure any art dealer or collector that the paper and ink used to print the photograph will last many years without fading.

Archival quality papers and inks

Manufacturers of photographic papers and inks often state on the packaging what the typical lifespan is expected under normal viewing and storage conditions. If the information is not included with the packaging, most manufacturers list this information on their website. As there are no clearly defined expectations for the lifespan of a photographic print to be considered archival, it is left to the individual photographer to determine whether the papers and inks used can be called archival. Most photographers, as well as art collectors, consider one hundred years to be the minimum standard for calling paper or ink archival.
