How to Capture a Sunrise Photo

Many photographers enjoy a good sunrise photo. Sunrise shots are the most captured photo in the world. There is something surreal and peaceful about the image that intrigues photographers and viewers. Amateur photographers may have tried and failed to capture a truly great shot, creating the impression that a sunrise is a "hit-and-miss" image to capture, but this is completely false. As a matter of fact, if you use the right form and technique, you can capture a great sunrise shot every time.

Instructions

    1

Scout for the right location. This step is actually more technical and complicated than it may seem. The trick is to plan ahead for the perfect shot. Look for a rural or urban area that is void of tall buildings and other objects that can block the shot. Travel to the area a couple of times before setting up the shoot to make sure that it is the right fit for what you want. Also, check sunrise times online or from a weather forecast (see Resources below).

    2

Set the white balance (WB). Not just any WB setting will work, and this is the biggest mistake some photographers make. When the sun rises, it changes the temperature of the outside light. The additional warmth from the sun causes the WB to change too. Some cameras have a "sunset" preset already built in. If your camera has this preset, use it. If not, choose the "daylight" setting. For RAW image format, you can set the white balance in the photo editing software instead.

    3

Set the composition. Landscape format is the popular choice, and it works. It is also a little predictable. The portrait format offers the same great shot, plus adds a little spontaneity and versatility. As far as centering the shot, try it with the sun off-centering. You can also have the sun in the center of the shot, as this is the popular position, but off-centering is more contemporary and it may enhance the photo.

    4

Adjust the exposure. "Are you looking to learn digital photography approaches that carry skilled photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would likely assist you out in doing so. To acquire stunning photos we primary need to have to look at some basic photography strategies. The primary one I am able to share with you is find out about light. You can locate everything about photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you uncover about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your images will get improved..". Try underexposing the shot for a photo with more richly vibrant colors. Set the exposure setting between -1 and -2 stops.

    5

Focus the frame so that it is not pointing directly at the sun. Try to concentrate on another object in the foreground or other areas of the frame. Keep the sun as the background. This will give the appearance that the sunrise enhances your photo and is not just the main subject in it. Plus, it is unnatural for people to look directly into the sun.

    6

Start capturing the photos just before the sun rises. Some of the most beautiful photos come just before the sun has risen, when Mother Nature has supplied some of the richest colors. Take a few shots before and after so you can see the difference in colors on different frames.

    7

Take the shot as the sun breaks the horizon. This is your perfect sunrise shot.

How to Do a Headshot Shot

How to Do a Headshot Shot

A headshot is a pathway for employment opportunities for models and actors. Headshots are more than just a picture of a person's face, the image captures the person's character and makes the model or actor stand out from the rest. A good headshot shows a person's style, good qualities and depth of character. Creating a headshot requires more than just pointing and clicking a camera. Try these simple steps for creating a headshot that helps a person get the job.

Instructions

    1

Hang a backdrop across a straight, flat wall. When you choose the backdrop, get one that is solid or without a busy pattern. The backdrop enhances the person's face without drawing the eyes away from the person.

    2

Place a stool in front of the center of the backdrop. Put a pole lamp on each side of where the person sits. Use low-wattage soft light bulbs so the light makes the person look good without washing out the skin colors. Use an overhead light so it highlights the subject's hair.

    3

Set the subject on a stool in between the two pole lamps. Set your camera on the highest quality pictures, and set it to manual focus. Have your subject turn their body slightly away from the camera, and turn their head directly toward the camera. "Would you like to understand digital photography systems that deliver experienced photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would likely help you out in doing so. To acquire stunning photos we primary need to look at some fundamental photography techniques. The most important one I am able to share with you is discover about light. You can obtain all the things about photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you find out about light and in what way it interacts with the direct environment then your photographs will get more beneficial..". Focus the camera on the subject's eyes, and take several pictures of the head and shoulders.

    4

Continue taking pictures in different camera positions in front of the subject, but always re-focus the camera lens on the subject's eyes. Keep taking pictures until you get an image that draws viewers' eyes to the subject's eyes in the picture.

    5

Aim a fan at the person's face, and take more pictures while focusing on the eyes. This gives a saucy look to the image.

How to Use an iPod Touch With a Nikon D90 Camera

The D90 is a DSLR camera produced by Nikon. "Are you looking to learn digital photography techniques that bring professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would likely support you out in doing so. To become amazing pictures we first need to have to look at some imperative photography strategies. The initial one I am able to share with you is discover about light. You can find everything concerning photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you discover about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your shots will get superior..". It is possible to remotely control a Nikon DSLR camera from an iPod touch by using the Camera Remote software from OneOnOne. Since the software requires that the camera be plugged into a computer on the same Wi-Fi network as the iPod touch, controlling the D90 with an iPod touch may only be possible in studio settings, rather than out in the field. As of May, 2011, this software was available as a free edition or a professional edition for $19.99.

Instructions

    1

    Turn on the camera.

    2

Plug the Nikon D90 camera into the computer using the USB connector cable that is included with your camera.

    3

Open the OneOnOne DSLR Camera Remote software.

    4

Select where you would like to save your images on the software home screen. Check to see that Nikon D90 is displayed at the top of the screen as the camera model.

    5

Check that the iPod touch is on the same Wi-Fi network as the computer.

    6

Open the Camera Remote app on the iPod touch. Click on the "My Server."

    7

Choose the shutter speed and the aperture settings.

    8

Press the "Fire" button on the iPod touch app when you are ready to take a picture.

How to Photograph Gymnastics

How to Photograph Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a competitive and artistic sport that makes for dramatic photo opportunities. With more than 5 million participants training and competing in over 4,000 gyms throughout the country, there are certain to be many opportunities for family and friends to photograph gymnastics competitions. Unfortunately, with the fast-paced action of gymnastics competition and the challenging photography opportunities, it takes careful preparation and the proper equipment to get good results.

Instructions

Equipment Needs

    1

Shoot your gymnastics photos with a digital SLR camera body that features a low-light sensor. Cameras with APS-C sized sensors are ideal for providing extra telephoto reach.

    2

Choose the proper lens depending on how close you can get to the action. Telephoto zoom lenses with a range of 70 - 200 mm are ideal and provide the flexibility for both close and far shots. Because you will need to use very fast shutter speeds, it is important to use a fast lens, that is, one having a maximum aperture of at least f/2.8. Because of the fast shutter speed that you'll be using, image stabilization in the lens is not critically important.

    3

Learn how to use your camera's low light shooting capability as it is unlikely that you'll be allowed to use flash photography.

Instructions

    4

Set your camera to the highest ISO setting that allows for clean, noise-free photographs. On simpler cameras, this will probably be ISO 800. High end professional and "prosumer" cameras may allow for clean shooting at ISO speeds of 3,200, 6,400 or higher. The higher ISO will allow for faster shutter speeds.

    5

Set your camera to aperture priority and and dial in the lowest possible f-stop number for your lens. Remember that lower f-stop numbers reflect wider-open lens apertures and allow more of the available light to reach your camera's sensor. With this setting, if your shutter speed is not 1/500 second or faster, you'll need to go back and select a higher ISO setting.

    6

Select the multiple exposure mode that will allow your camera to take a series of fast-paced photographs. It is unlikely that you will be able to time a single shutter release with the peak of action and the multiple exposure mode will help ensure that you capture a great action shot.

    7

Shoot from a position at floor level. Shooting from a low level will accentuate the perception of height when the gymnast executes tumbling and leaping movements during the floor exercise and when performing on the vault.

    8

Capture the dramatic release movements and dismounts on the uneven parallel bars and the graceful poses and jumps executed on the balance beam. These two events are best photographed from the side of the apparatus. "Do you want to understand digital photography methods that deliver professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would support you out in doing so. To get amazing images we initially want to look at some imperative photography strategies. The initial one I am able to share with you is uncover about light. You can discover everything regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Whenever you learn about light and in what technique it interacts with the direct environment then your images will get superior..". Again, shooting from a low position on the floor will increase the appearance of height as the gymnast performs these movements.

Tools for a Camera Bag

Tools for a Camera Bag

The camera bag is more than just a "purse" for a photographer. It can mean the difference between a great shot and a missed opportunity. There are both obvious and obscure items that a photographer can have on hand to make life in the field easier to manage, things that evolve into a photographer's "style" when capturing his vision.

The Essentials

Camera bags are a great home for extra lenses, flashes and other basic items used with your camera system. Extra batteries are critical with contemporary electronic cameras. Without power your camera is useless, so having a charged backup battery at hand at all times is simply necessary for successful shooting. Use compartments or cases to keep equipment from getting jostled. Thick socks make excellent lens protectors in a pinch. Extra memory cards (or film, if you're old school) cover card failures as well as extra image storage.

Photographic Accessories

These items extend the range of your camera system. Consider a mini tripod. While not a replacement for its big brother, it has many uses for increasing camera stability. As well as packing filters you commonly use, pack filter wrenches so your shoot isn't compromised by tight filters. Rubber pads made to grip jar lids are excellent for this purpose as well, and take up very little room. Lens cleaning supplies should be on hand at all times to keep optics sharp for best performance.

General Tools

The camera bag could be described as a photographer's do-everything Swiss Army knife, so the inclusion of a literal Swiss Army knife or other multitool is a natural. Add a small pair of pliers if your multitool doesn't include them. A small screwdriver set often comes in handy, as do small rolls of tape of different types and size. Zip-locking freezer bags can be improvised into many uses, from storage to camera rain gear. Avoid sandwich bags, as the plastic is thin and easily torn.

Human Considerations

An inexpensive pouch poncho is a wise addition to keep shooting in unexpectedly inclement weather. Likewise, articles like gloves and sunglasses can make dealing with the elements easier. Water and energy bars may be prudent additions if you are on a photo hike, and a length of strong cord often comes in handy. "Would you like to understand digital photography methods that bring professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would help you out in doing so. To obtain amazing pictures we first want to look at some imperative photography strategies. The preliminary one I am able to share with you is uncover about light. You can come across all the things concerning photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you find out about light and in what approach it interacts with the direct environment then your pictures will get better..". A small first-aid kit may never get used, but it will seem like a master stroke if you are in need.

Other Ideas

What you're shooting and where may give you other ideas for items that will make your outing successful. If you are trekking into a remote area, using your camera bag to carry basic survival items is smart. Close to home, you can pack light. In fact most photographers have a variety of camera bags to meet different needs. Pens, pencils, markers and a small notepad are useful additions.
