How to Create a Portfolio as a Fashion Photographer

How to Create a Portfolio as a Fashion Photographer

A fashion photographer takes high quality and high resolution images of clothes, accessories and models for magazines, designers and fashion houses. A portfolio is basically just a collection of the photographer's best work. It can either be an online portfolio in the form of a website that people can visit and view, or it can be prints of the images placed in a folder. No matter what form it's in, the portfolio must showcase the photographer's skill and versatility.

Instructions

    1

Have photographs to put into your portfolio. If you are just starting out as a fashion photographer, it will take time to build a portfolio. Every time you shoot fashion photos for a publication or designer, you will have pictures to put into your portfolio. Over time you will have plenty of different types of images to show.

    2

Pick and choose the best images to include in your portfolio. After every photo shoot, choose one or two photos that truly stand out and showcase your talent. If any photos happen to be published, definitely include those in your portfolio. Published photos show that your work has been acknowledged in the media.

    3

Create an online portfolio. You may have to hire a web designer to give your site a polished and professional look. Upload your best images online and give out the web address so that people can view your portfolio just by going on the Internet.

    4

Organize your fashion photos into a folder. "Would you like to understand digital photography techniques that bring skilled photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would likely support you out in doing so. To obtain spectacular images we initially need to look at some fundamental photography methods. The initial one I am able to share with you is uncover about light. You can obtain all the things regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you discover about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your images will get improved..". Buy a discreet three-ring folder and laminated sheets. Put your best fashion photos into the plastic sheets so that they don't get damaged in any way. The sheets should also be hole-punched. This way your photos will be organized, and be able to be viewed by many people without being torn or soiled.

    5

Organize your fashion photos into a photo album that can hold large 8 x 11 prints, as an alternative to a folder.

How to Determine an F Number

The f-number, or f-stop, is related to the aperture in the camera which adjusts the amount of light let in. The two reasons to adjust a camera's aperture are light control and how much of the photo is in focus (depth of field). Determining the right f-number can be tricky but with practice gets easier.

Instructions

    1

Locate the f-numbers on your camera's lens. The f-numbers available to you can differ depending on your lens. You will most likely have a range similar to the following: 1.8, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 15, and 22.

    2

Remember that the smaller the f-number, the larger the opening or aperture that will let light into the camera. "Are you looking to discover digital photography systems that deliver expert photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would guide you out in doing so. To obtain impressive pictures we first want to look at some basic photography techniques. The most important one I am able to share with you is find out about light. You can come across all the things regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you find out about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your pictures will get better..". The larger the f-number, the smaller the opening or aperture.

    3

Consider the light as you take a picture. If it is bright, you will need less light and can try an f-number of 11. If it is dusk, or indoors, you will need more light and should try an f-number of 5.6.

    4

Consider the picture you are taking. Do you want the subject in sharp focus and the background out of focus (shallow depth of field)? Or do you want the entire photo in focus, like in a landscape (greater depth of field)? For a shallow depth of field you will want to choose a lower f-number, like 5.6. For a greater depth of field, choose a higher f-number, like 16.

    5

Practice by setting your f-number to 5.6 (large aperture) and take a photo. You will have a shallow depth of field in this photo-meaning there will be a narrow zone in the picture that will be in focus. You will also have a larger opening, allowing in more light.

    6

Look at your photo. If it is dark, you will need to select a smaller f-number (larger opening) the next time you take a photo in similar conditions in order to let in more light. If it is too bright, or washed out, you will need a higher f-number (smaller aperture) the next time to reduce the amount of light in the picture.

How to Troubleshoot a Kodak Easyshare C643

How to Troubleshoot a Kodak Easyshare C643

Before mailing your camera off to a Kodak technician, consult this guide. The problem may be something that you can fix yourself!

Instructions

Power Issues

    1

Check the batteries. Remove the batteries and replace them, being sure to connect the positives to the positive contacts and the negatives to the negative contacts. If they are rechargeable batteries, be sure they are fully charged.

    2

Remove the batteries and connect your camera to the Easyshare Dock. If the camera still does not power on, this test at least eliminates suspicions on the batteries.

    3

Consult your manual. If you are still experiencing power issues after determining the batteries and dock are not the cause, locate the warranty information in your manual and submit your camera to repair.

Functional Problems

    4

Turn off your camera if the camera does not record pictures or video. Wait for a few seconds, then turn the camera back on. "Do you need to understand digital photography methods that deliver expert photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques might support you out in doing so. To get spectacular photos we initially need to have to look at some imperative photography methods. The most important one I am able to share with you is identify about light. You can discover all the things concerning photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you uncover about light and in what way it interacts with the direct environment then your shots will get improved..". If the ready light does not appear, replace the batteries. If there is a ready light, but you still cannot record picture or video, submit the camera for repair.

    5

Remedy an error message by turning the camera off and removing the memory card and batteries. Wait a few seconds, then replace the memory card and batteries. Power the camera on.

    6

Check that the flash is actually set . Turn off the camera and install a new set of batteries. Check again that the flash is set, then try taking a picture.

    7

Make sure that the camera is looking in the right file location for the picture. Consult your manual for information on how to change file locations.

    8

Check that the lens is clean if the picture is blurry. Be sure that the camera is stable when taking a picture.

Background Ideas for Photos of Newborns

Background Ideas for Photos of Newborns

Take artistic photographs of newborns using backgrounds that compliment the picture but do not detract from the baby. Photographing babies is a rewarding experience but getting good shots of newborns is challenging. Newborns are unable to hold their heads up so most shots will be with the baby either laying down or held up by a parent or other family member. Use these scenarios to your advantage when deciding on appropriate backgrounds.

Walls and Screens

Let the walls of the room become the background of the photograph. Solid colors are best for newborn pictures, so avoid taking photos in a room with wallpaper. In the studio, choose screens with subtle patterns and solid colors, using soft focus to detract from background and have the newborn be the main focal point. When photographing in the home, choose a room with a solid-colored wall that does not have a lot of wall decor.

Nursery

Take advantage of the natural backgrounds in the baby's nursery. Place the newborn in the crib and get a shot of her cuddled with her blanket and a plush toy while creating a background with the rails of the crib through varied angles. "Do you want to discover digital photography systems that bring experienced photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques might guide you out in doing so. To find stunning images we primary need to look at some basic photography methods. The initial one I am able to share with you is determine about light. You can come across all the things regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you find out about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your images will get much better..". Other background possibilities in the nursery include a window with either closed curtains or opened up with a view of the garden or yard. By taking a photo near a window, you are getting a scenic background with the benefit of natural light. Many newborn shots will involve parent's cooperation in holding the newborn on her shoulder or in a swaddled position; the nursery is a great place to get these shots.

Props

Due to their size, place newborns on top of or inside objects for interesting and creative photographs. Place the baby inside a large basket with a cotton liner or on top of a decorative pillow. Shoot this photo from above the baby so the props create an automatic background. Another option is to place the pillow on a favorite sofa in the living room and have that sofa become a background. Blankets and other fabrics are appropriate to use as backgrounds; drape them over furniture or wrap the baby in the blanket for a close-up shot.

Black and White

Black and white photos are common for newborns and provide the family with a more artistic picture. The backgrounds for black and white photos will vary depending on the style you are going for. To get a simple and subtle photo, any solid color wall, sheet or blanket will work as the colors in the background will not be seen. To add your creativity, choose to use windows, furniture or interesting decor items in the home as backgrounds.

Outdoors

Go outdoors with the newborn to make use of the natural light and create more nature-inspired backgrounds. The backgrounds you will use are the sky, grass, trees, flower gardens and even patio furniture. Have a parent hold up the baby into the sky and get an angled shot of her. Another way the parent or family member will help is by holding the newborn in a sleeping position in the crook of her arm or on her shoulder. Stage these photographs in front of the family's rose garden or an interesting tree. Lay the baby on a blanket in the grass and take a shot from above.

DIY Photography Light Box for Jewelry

DIY Photography Light Box for Jewelry

Taking photos of jewelry items can be challenging because of their small size and often reflective property, which affects the overall quality of the photos. Being significantly smaller than people and landscapes, shooting jewelry requires better lighting sources to fit their small size and make them properly exposed on camera. Lighting them also becomes another challenge because most of them reflect the camera and lights on their shiny surfaces. Using a light box when shooting is one of the most accessible solutions to avoid these concerns.

Instructions

    1

Cut five equal squares from the white cardboard and tape them together into a cube with one open side. Or, if working with a premade box, remove any lid or cut away any top flaps. Tip the cube or box on one side, leaving the open side facing you similar to a diorama or dollhouse; through the open side is where you will place your jewelry and take the photos.

    2

Cut a large hole measuring 5 by 5 inches on the top surface of your box. The hole may be larger if you prefer to make or use a box more than 2 by 2 feet in size.

    3

Cover the top hole with at least two layers of tissue paper. Stretch out the pieces to make them flat and layered on top of each other. These serve as diffusers of the light that passes through the top of the box. Softer lights help minimize deep shadows on the jewelry being shot.

Although you can secure the layers of tissue paper on top of the hole, you can make them temporary attachments for your box. This way, you can actually replace them with red or blue gels that can serve as colored filters for your other photos. In some cases, you may also want to leave the hole uncovered or have it covered it with thicker layers of tissue paper or other possible covers that can completely stop the light from passing through it.

    4

Place your lighting equipment in specific areas where they make your jewelry look good. These can include professional lighting equipment or practical options like ordinary light bulbs, LED lights, or even study lamps.

There may be varying possibilities when it comes to lighting a particular photography subject, but as a basic guide, use one main source of light called the key light and a supporting light called the fill light. This requires placing the key light in front of the box, but either on its left or right side. You can place it on the upper or lower part of the box or just focused on the middle. The fill light is usually a softer or more diffused light typically placed opposite the direction of the key light. You can also position your fill light or add another fill light on top of the box to help further illuminate your jewelry subject.

    5

Place the jewelry you want to shoot inside the light box. Adjust it and/or the lighting set up to favor your preferred look for your subject, then begin the photo shoot.
