How to Use Cheap Lighting for Photography

How to Use Cheap Lighting for Photography

Photography is indeed an art form. Next to film, the most important aspect of creating any photo is the lighting. It is also some of the most expensive equipment a photographer can use. Finding inexpensive sources of light for the beginner can be a matter of trial and error. However, there are a few basic items that you can make or buy that will assist you in your endeavors until you can afford that all important first lighting set-up.

Instructions

    1
Car shades work wonders for fill-in or bounce lighting.

Decide what you are going to be shooting. Different photos sometimes take different lighting. If, for instances, you plan on shooting mostly landscapes or outdoor scenes, you'll be using sunlight and cloud cover as your lighting source. "Would you like to learn digital photography techniques that bring professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques could help you out in doing so. To become stunning photos we primary need to have to look at some essential photography methods. The preliminary one I am able to share with you is discover about light. You can obtain all the things regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you uncover about light and in what approach it interacts with the direct environment then your photographs will get improved..". Even then, however, you may need to fill in the shadows on your subject with a bit of extra bounce lighting. When you have a subject in mind, and in place, position your new fill in light tool against a rock or tree, directing the bounced light to fill some of the shadow's in your subject. Whether a person, multiple people, or even close up of nature, this will help you create the perfect shot!

    2
Make sure your floor lamp head is adjustable.

Purchase a desk or floor lamp. Make sure that your lamp are adjustable, with tiltable heads. This will allow you to position your light to fall where you wish it to go. If you can find a floor lamp with multiple heads, even better. A multiple head floor lamp, where the heads are at different heights - will give you more flexibility in lighting your subject.

    3

Purchase light bulbs. Light bulbs producing full spectrum or "daylight" light are now available in many watts and styles. Purchase the correct light bulbs that will fit properly in your lamps, at the highest wattage possible. If your lamp can take 100 watt bulbs - those are the ones you should purchase. Simply insert them into your floor or desk lamp and you have a light source perfect for photography at your disposal. Softening this light with a homemade soft box will eliminate harsh shadows and provide a better lighting situation for your subject.

    4

Build a light box. A light box will assist you in shooting still photos, or anything you want to have a more wrapped around light. They are easy to make, and can be made to fit any size object you wish to photography by just varying the size of the box you use. Making multiple boxes and storing them, allows you to change boxes quickly and continuing your shooting schedule.

Making Fill-in, Soft Box and Light Boxes

    5

Create your own fill in light source by taking a car sun screen and a bit of paint. Spray one side of the screen with high gloss white paint. This may take a couple of coats to cover any writing or pictures. On the other side, spray it with a silver metallic spray paint. Allow to dry completely, then use to bounce light back to your subject.

    6

Build your own soft box easily by taking a medium size cardboard box, preferably one that is only 3 or 4 inches in depth, and cut a hole the shape of your light in the back. Tape the flaps together so that they are open. Tape white tissue paper inside the flaps but away from the heat of the light bulb. This will soften the harshness of the direct light, and still allow you to direct the light where you want it.

    7

Make your own Light Box. Take a large cardboard box and securely tape the bottom. Spray paint the entire inside of the box white. Cut rectangles out of the sides of the box, leaving only 1-1.5 inches around the edges of each side. Tape white tissue paper on 3 of the sides, leaving the 4th empty. By leaving the 4th side empty, you will be able to lift the box and place it over anything you might want to shoot.

    8

Shoot with your Light Box. Use the rolls of either white or black paper as backgrounds, taping it high in the back and allowing it to seamlessly roll out to the outside of the box. Use the box flaps as extra bounce/fill in light by closing them slightly. Place your desk or floor lights on one or 2 sides of the outside of the box and begin your shoot.

Equipment Used in Industrial Photography

Industrial photography is an exciting and broad-ranged field that includes photographic images made both inside and outside the workplace or factory. Often, large-format cameras are used to take the picture, and it is important to remember that a high-quality black and white image can tell the story just as well as a color picture.

Outside the Building

Workplace buildings are for the most part functional structures, which are built so the task at hand can be accomplished with the maximum of ease. The design of such a building can vary greatly from a tall high-rise filled with small cubicles to a one-story factory or warehouse that covers as much ground as a football field. Photographing a building from the outside takes a lot of effort and a careful study of the lighting conditions. For commercial purposes, many photographers use cameras that take a larger size of film than the standard 35mm, and they often mount the camera on a tripod before taking the picture.

Interior Shots

Interior pictures can vary greatly from making close-up pictures of manufactured products to revealing the interior space of various types of commercial buildings. Again, larger format cameras are preferred for still shots, but a 35mm camera is sometimes used for scenes that involve human activity. It is also possible to use a handheld camera that takes 120-roll film for indoor pictures with people. These are intermediate cameras in which the film size has been increased, but the camera can still be handheld to make clear pictures. Cameras that use plate film need to be set on a tripod.

Interior Lighting

Natural lighting may be used in some instances, but much interior photography requires the use of artificial lighting. When shooting indoors, it is usually best to set up your own lights that create a situation where you can still use daylight film. "Do you want to know digital photography approaches that bring professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques might support you out in doing so. To obtain spectacular images we first need to look at some basic photography techniques. The most important one I am able to share with you is figure out about light. You can come across everything regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Whenever you find out about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your images will get more beneficial..". This means your lights need to be the same temperature as daylight film. In a few instances, it might be better to use a Tungsten film rather than setting up your own lighting system. For instance, if you are shooting in a large, indoor space with no natural lighting, then you might consider using the Tungsten film.

Tripod

A tripod will, by necessity, become an important item for the industrial photographer to use, whether he is shooting indoors under artificial lights or outside during daylight hours. The tripod is a three-legged stand that supports the camera while the film is being exposed. By mounting a camera to a tripod (each item should have the appropriate mounts and inserts to make this possible), the photographer lessens the chance of camera movement and a blurry picture. As the film sizes increase, the more imperative it is to use a tripod to support and stabilize the camera. Also note that, with a tripod, it is possible to set a camera at many different angles or to adjust the height of the camera.

Digital

Digital cameras have increased dramatically in their ability to produce a high-quality image. The digital cameras that are used for professional purposes are the more expensive SLR (single lens reflex) models. These cameras look a lot like their film counterparts except the image is stored in a digital format. For professional quality, it is usually necessary to purchase a camera that stores the image in the RAW format.

Boudoir Photography Techniques

Boudoir Photography Techniques

People who want a boudoir portrait done seek to express themselves sensually through a photograph. Your job as the photographer is to make subjects feel at ease while capturing them in a flattering way. "Would you like to learn digital photography solutions that carry professional photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques could support you out in doing so. To find stunning images we primary want to look at some essential photography strategies. The preliminary one I am able to share with you is figure out about light. You can locate every little thing concerning photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Whenever you find out about light and in what way it interacts with the direct environment then your photographs will get improved..". Knowing how to work with your subject and your camera will give you the best portrait possible.

Lighting

Boudoir photography lighting is traditionally lower and softer than traditional portrait photography. Sometimes, significant parts of the subject's body are in darkness, while other parts, like the profile, shoulders or back, are highlighted.

The built-in flash on most cameras is too harsh and too close to the camera's lens to use as your light source. A better option is to use lights with softboxes and a white backdrop. This will make the lighting soft, warm and diffused. The white backdrop will also help prevent extra colors being cast onto the subject, which can happen especially when the room has bright wall colors.

In low light, many cameras require a low shutter speed to take a good picture. In this case, you may want to bring along a tripod to eliminate blurriness in the picture.

Set-Up

When you're setting the scene for a boudoir shoot, understand that you can work with the room. For a subject-focused portrait, you may not need to do much, because you will probably shoot the subject without including the surroundings. However, if you want a soft, sensual boudoir portrait, you can use soft furnishings like couches, chairs or bed linens that help to make the scene look warm and inviting.

Working with the Subject

It is important to develop a trusting relationship with your subject before beginning the shoot because he will probably be nude or semi-nude, and in order for you to capture his personality, he'll need to feel natural and at ease.

Reassure the subject that you're capturing her most flattering features and that the scene looks good.

Using a tripod is a good way to work with the subject because you can make eye contact during the shoot.

Finishing

Once you complete the boudoir photo shoot, you can use photo retouching software to finish your photographs. Techniques such as airbrushing and color and lighting adjustments help you to make your photos look professional. However, remember that your subject probably does not want to look unnatural, so use discretion when airbrushing. According to Boudoir Photography.org, the best airbrushing looks invisible, as if you haven't done anything to the photograph at all.

Selling Antique Cameras

Antique cameras and equipment can be valuable items to sell to collectors and professional photographers. Listing them in venues such as online auction sites, camera club classifieds or even your local newspaper can help you sell them quickly and easily.

Instructions

    1

Sell through eBay. "Would you like to learn digital photography solutions that deliver experienced photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would likely help you out in doing so. To get spectacular images we first need to have to look at some imperative photography strategies. The preliminary one I am able to share with you is find out about light. You can come across all the things regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you discover about light and in what way it interacts with the direct environment then your shots will get improved..". You can set up an auction for your antique camera and hope that you will find a buyer willing to pay what the item is worth. With this option you can set a reserve amount that has to be met before you will relinquish the camera, though it may be harder to get interested buyers if you set the reserve price too high. Ebay also has a "Buy It Now" option that allows you to set a price for your item and buyers can pay it directly without having to participate in an auction for it. Using an online auction site to sell your camera gives you more control over the amount you sell for and does give you worldwide exposure to potential buyers, but you will have to pay a percentage of the sale to the website as their fee for using their service.

    2

Sell through a camera club. The Historic Camera Collector club sometimes purchases old cameras and photography equipment. Many times this depends on availability of club funds, as well as the quality of the equipment you are hoping to sell. Some camera clubs have classifieds available to list your camera equipment through, which are accessed via the Internet or a club newsletter. Some may charge for listings while others will include them for free.

    3

Sell through the newspaper classifieds. The weekend issues of the paper will be best if you are trying to reach a wide audience, especially the Sunday edition. Make sure to list your ad in the proper category, such as "Electronics," "Cameras/Equipment," or "Antiques" if possible. If you do not sell your item with the first ad that you list, you might want to try moving it to a different category and see if that brings in more interest. Listing in the newspaper is a good way to show your ad to local buyers, but will not help much if you are trying to find a national or worldwide potential market.

    4

Sell to an antiques dealer. You can take your camera and equipment to a local storefront that deals in antiques and see if they would be interested in purchasing them. You can also try online antiques dealers, such as Antique-Buyers.com. The offer appraisal services and evaluations, as well as giving you several options for selling your equipment.

    5

Sell to a used camera store. Sometimes the people working in or running camera stores will be interested in buying antique cameras for their personal collections, but not necessarily with any intention of trying to resell them. Used camera stores, which buy many different qualities of cameras and equipment, may be more interested in your item but may not offer you as high a price as a collector or antiques dealer would. UsedCameraBuyer.com is an online company that buys used camera equipment, after giving you a price quote of what they have determined the value to be. This can be useful, as it will give you an amount that you can use as an example of your camera's worth if you decide to shop around for a buyer. Keh.com works in much the same way as UsedCameraBuyer, offering both money or trades for your old camera equipment.
