What is a Telephoto Lens?

A telephoto lens is a camera lens with a narrow angle of view and a longer focal length than a lens for the normal image size produced by that camera.

Function

A telephoto lens zooms in on distant objects, making it a frequent choice of news photographers and sports photographers--or parents homing in on their child in a parade or graduation ceremony. "Are you looking to know digital photography approaches that deliver skilled photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques could help you out in doing so. To get impressive pictures we first need to look at some fundamental photography methods. The preliminary one I am able to share with you is determine about light. You can come across everything concerning photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you uncover about light and in what method it interacts with the direct environment then your photos will get more beneficial..". This type of lens also can be flattering for candid wedding photography or for portraits.

Features

The key feature of a telephoto lens is a long focal length, or the measure of how strongly it focuses light. This gives an image a shallow depth of field, meaning unwanted objects in the foreground and background can be blurred easily to concentrate on the subject.

Types

Depending on size, lenses are classified as moderate telephoto, medium telephoto and super-telephoto lenses.

Size

For the 35 mm format, moderate-length telephoto lenses can be anything greater than 35 mm, typically 85 mm to 130 mm. Many portrait photographers opt for 105 mm. Medium telephoto lenses range from about 135 mm to 300 mm. A super-telephoto lens is about 400 mm to 800 mm.

Considerations

As the lens size increases, so does the expense--and the weight. Telephoto lenses can go out of focus easily because of their narrow view, so use a tripod for accuracy and support.

How to Flatten Curled Negatives

How to Flatten Curled Negatives

Film negatives are typically flat squares when they are developed. The flatness of film negatives is critical to enlarging them to photographic paper or scanning them. If your film negatives are not stored properly or a problem occurs during the developing process, they may curl at the edges. You must flatten your film negatives to avoid problems when viewing or working with them.

Instructions

    1

Fill your clothes iron with water and turn it to the cotton setting. To uncurl your film negatives, you need both heat and steam from your iron. Lay your curled film negative as flat as possible against your ironing board, then lay the piece of cotton cloth on top of it.

    2

Iron the cloth on top of the film negative for 10 to 20 seconds. Press the water button on your iron to release steam and keep the cloth moist. Iron evenly and steadily on the cloth to avoid burning the film.

    3

Remove the negative from under the cloth and quickly place it into one of the square pouches in your film sleeve. Ensure that the negative is not curled when you place it in the sleeve.

    4

Place the film sleeve under two heavy books. The weight of the books keeps the negative flat as it cools down and loses moisture.

    5

Keep the flattened negative in a film sleeve whenever possible. Improper storage of film negatives could cause them to curl again, possibly warping the image.

How to Take Award-Winning Photographs

How to Take Award-Winning Photographs

Every year many companies and publications sponsor photography contests. Prizes range from products, such as cameras and other photography equipment, to cash awards. To find a list of photo contests, visit Fanartreview.com or check photography and travel magazines. To help your entry in any contest become one of the finalists, there some basics to keep in mind that will help your entries stand out from the rest.

Instructions

Pick the Contest

    1

Chose a contest to enter. Most contests are usually centered around a specific theme, such as animals, people or travel. This decision is usually determined by what available photographs you have of suitable quality to enter.

    2

Read the rules carefully. When entering a contest, every rule must be followed exactly. Entries that do not conform to the rules of the contest are usually disqualified immediately.

    3

Determine if your entry displays originality and technical excellence. A photo that is not in focus where appropriate and does not display proper exposure will not survive the competition.

Award-Winning Details

    4

Fill the frame with your subject. Both novice and experienced photographers will notice an improvement in their photography by filing up the frame with their subject and keeping the background behind the subject free of distracting clutter. This allows the viewer to focus attention on the subject.

    5

Avoid the bull's-eye effect. There are a few tricks award-winning photographers use to catch the attention of the judges and win prizes. The first is placement of the main subject within the photograph anywhere but in the exact center of the picture.

    6

Add contrast. Photos that use high contrast tend to be looked upon favorably by photo contest judges. The contrast can be between dark and light elements in a photograph. High contrast can also be expressed by the relationship between the elements of the picture, such as a very tall person dancing with a very short partner.

    7

Focus on detail. Photographs that show a detailed pattern, such as a window screen with one break in the pattern -- perhaps a housefly walking on the screen -- easily attracts and holds the attention of contest judges.

    8

Choose the best light. The most delicately hued photographs, especially scenics, should be shot early in the morning and late in the afternoon. "Would you like to learn digital photography solutions that deliver expert photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques could support you out in doing so. How to Make a 360 Degree Photo

How to Make a 360 Degree Photo

Capturing sweeping landscapes or towering skyscrapers is a daunting task for photographers everywhere. Standing on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, a single shot hardly suffices to depict the panoramic beauty of the African savanna framed by jagged mountain peaks. Fortunately, you can stitch several shots together to form a 360-degree image that gives your photograph the wider perspective that your subject requires.

Instructions

    1

Attach your camera to a tripod and arrange it in the middle of the scene you wish to capture. "Do you need to discover digital photography approaches that deliver skilled photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques could assist you out in doing so. To get stunning pictures we first want to look at some basic photography techniques. The primary one I am able to share with you is determine about light. You can locate all the things regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Whenever you discover about light and in what way it interacts with the direct environment then your pictures will get better..". Switch your camera to manual mode to maintain consistent lighting throughout your sequence. If you shoot in auto mode, your camera will automatically meter each shot differently, potentially resulting in lighting inconsistencies in your final image.

    2

Take a series of photographs, rotating the camera on your tripod a few degrees each time. The photos should overlap by about 20 to 50 percent to help the stitching software program prevent seams from appearing in the final image. Shoot photos at the same resolution and focal length. The wider the focal length, the fewer photos you will have to take to achieve a 360-degree perspective.

    3

Upload your digital images to your computer. If you are shooting in film, print your photos and scan them. Rearrange the images in order and rotate them if necessary. Rename the files if they are not already in order so that they can be opened in sequence by the photo editing software.

    4

Open the photos in the photo editing software of your choice. There is a wide range of software with photo-stitching capabilities on the market, including Photoshop and Autostitch. You may also choose to stitch the photos together manually, though this can be time-consuming and may not produce the best results.

    5

Run the photo-stitching program and choose whether you would like to have an equi-rectangular, cubic or cylindrical final image. After the program has stitched your photos together, crop any rough edges and save the image file.
