From large organizations to smaller groups, a number of people are committed to funding the artistic pursuits of minority photographers. Some of these awards and grants are targeted specifically for historically disadvantaged groups, and others cast a wider net of support. Regardless of which groups they zero in on, they provided thousands of dollars each year for their craft.
Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships
Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships are geared toward minority and economically disadvantaged photographers and are meant to encourage artists to not only hone their skills but also give back to their communities. To be eligible, you must be either an undergraduate or graduate student studying photography or another artistic discipline approved by the organization. You must also complete the scholarship application and include all necessary parts, such as a written statement, portfolio, self-portrait and a financial statement. New Works Photography Fellowship Awards
The New Works Photography Fellowship Awards is sponsored by En Foco and recognizes photographers of Latino, African-American, Native-American, Pacific-American and Asian heritage with money and prizes that will enable them to begin or complete an in-depth photographic series on a topic of their choice. The program also helps winners begin to exhibit their photographs in the New York area. To apply, complete an application packet, which includes a description of your project, biography, statement about your work, 20 images and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography
The Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography scholarship was created in 2005 and has given both professional and student photojournalists the opportunity to hone their skills and get their work publicized. For the professional award, you must submit an electronic application, including a project proposal, portfolio of digital images and a professional biography. For students, submit all of the same application materials except for the biography. Winners of the professional award receive $20,000 and editorial and promotional support, and student winners receive $5,000 for each year of their photojournalism study.
