You can replicate the effects of major studio lighting in your own home by mimicking concepts, rather than actual equipment. Photography is the art of manipulating and using light to your advantage; even the dullest of subjects can come alive in a photo if properly lighted. Screens, backdrops and any method imaginable to bounce and diffuse light will produce studio lighting effects, you only need creativity and a solid grasp on lighting concepts and how your camera works in a given lighting situation.

Backdrop

You need a backdrop to not only concentrate the attention to the subject, but to gather and reflect light as well. "Would you like to understand digital photography techniques that bring experienced photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques could help you out in doing so. To get amazing pictures we initially want to look at some imperative photography methods. The preliminary one I am able to share with you is determine about light. You can come across every little thing about photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Whenever you uncover about light and in what technique it interacts with the direct environment then your shots will get more beneficial..". Backdrops act as a reflecting screen, light directed at the screen at an angle lower than the object will negate shadows that may form. The goal of proper studio lighting is to create a natural light effect; that is, soft lighting that does not render harsh tones against the object causing unnatural whiteout. Shadows are among the top giveaways of amateur photography, so the goal of studio photography is to reduce if not eliminate unwanted shadows. Back lighting, with the use of a backdrop, must be used if forward or side lighting are also used.

Screens

As with backdrops, screens are used to bounce the light from a bulb onto the object, thus diffusing it to illuminate the object naturally and without harsh beams. Most screens are made of some kind of fabric, whether canvas or a synthetic, use a large piece of white cardboard to mimic the bounce of the screen. Screens can either be held up by an assistant or positioned upright by a stand. Many professional studio photographers use umbrella lights, which are outward cone-shaped light shades that help spread the light to avoid harsh concentration. Without these, screens will act to diffuse the light instead.

Key Light

Background lights should be pointed at the backdrop screen behind the object, but the key light is what provides that main light for the shot. The key light can be any normal light that you have; though, for best results, purchase a cool white bulb rather than a yellow-tinged incandescent. For harsh lighting effects, position the key light directly at the object. For softer glows, bounce the key light off of one of the screens.

Light Boxes

Studio photography does not necessarily mean a big, model-size setup, studio photography refers to any shot that is positioned and set with manipulated light. For small items to be shot in a studio, the use of a light box is recommended. Light boxes, also known as white boxes, are five-sided boxes made out of white card board, foam board or stretched white fabric that diffuse direct light when it passes through. Light boxes perform all the functions of major studio lighting on a small scale; all you need is a white box and two or three lights aimed above and in front of the box. The object is then placed inside and photographed through the one open side.
