Proper studio lighting is essential for making your photography look professional, but it also comes with a hefty price tag. However, there are a variety of inexpensive DIY options for creating a professional photography light look. With a few basic items you may already have lying around the house and some lights from your local hardware or home improvement store, you can create your own professional photography light. The key is to diffuse the light. Direct light makes objects look harsh and creates dark shadows. A pristine white background with no edges will also prevent shadows.
Instructions
- 1
Cut foam board pieces into equal squares, using a utility knife.
2Tape foam board pieces together with white masking tape in the shape of a box with one open side.
3Set the box so the open side faces toward you.
4Place four small strips of 2-sided tape in the four corners of the tag board.
5Attach the top two taped corners to the back wall of the box that is facing you, and the bottom two taped corners to the floor of the box, so that the tag board forms a curve. It should be a very wide open U-shape.
6Cut small notches out of the middle of the left and right edges facing you.
7Clip the lights at the notches and direct them toward the top of the box. Alternatively, direct a hand-hold flash toward the top of the box.
