Your photography splash page will be the first thing people see upon visiting your website and the impression it makes can be vital in determining your success. If someone stumbles across a photography splash page that isn't visually appealing or doesn't contain the required information they'll usually leave rather than give the photographer another chance. Remember that your splash page is just one more tool you can use to stand out in a competitive marketplace.

Instructions

    1

Use a photo editing program such as Photoshop, GIMP, or Microsoft Paint. If you're making a professional splash page for your own photography website, you'll probably want to use one of the higher end programs as they offer more features than free programs like Microsoft Paint.

    2

Put your logo front and center. Your logo is how potential clients will recognize you and your work and it's also how the rest of your website will be branded. Your logo should be memorable and fit in with the theme of your site. For instance if you're shooting for high end fashion you'll want your logo to be simplistic and sleek to convey that impression.

    3

Put the links to important areas of your website off to one side where your customers can find them easily. If a link is hidden within the splash page itself it may be looked over.

    4

Place your contact information towards the bottom of your splash page away from the clutter of any images. The most important thing a customer can do upon seeing your website is contact you so make it easy on them.

    5

Use only your best images on your splash page. Up to 25 percent of people will leave upon viewing your splash page -- it may be the only chance for an impression that you get.

    6

Find a place for testimonials and awards. People are more likely to consider a photographer who's been vetted either by other customers or by the photography industry itself.
