Light reflectors are commonly used in film and photography to add light to an object without the glare of direct lighting. To use your light reflector, have someone hold it (or place it on a stand) off to the side of the object you are photographing. Aim the light at the reflector rather than the object, then adjust the position of the light and the reflector until the object is lit the way you want it. You may need multiple lights and reflectors to provide even lighting on all sides, or you can combine reflected light with direct lighting to fill in dark spots without overwhelming your primary light source, a technique known as fill lighting.

Lay out a piece of white foam core board, with the shiny side down if it has one. Tear off enough pieces of aluminum foil to fully cover one side of the board.
2Crumple the foil gently, then straighten it out so it has loose crinkles. Tape it to the board around all four edges with the shiny side facing out. This is your reflector side of the board. 3Set up the base of an adjustable musician's stand and discard the top part. Clip your reflector to the stand with a spring-loaded clip and adjust the stand height as necessary.
4Create another reflector using the dull side of the aluminum foil if you want an option that offers reflective qualities but diminishes the harshness of the shiny reflector.
