How to Add a Fuzzy Picture Border

There may be times when you want to add a border to your image for a print or web publication. Many applications have simple applets that allow you to add borders, corners and bevels to your images. GIMP offers the additional ability to add a fuzzy border and provides controls for adjusting the fuzziness of the border. This may be suitable for certain images and especially good for simple images without a lot of complexity. It is an easy process, so read below on how to use GIMP to add fuzzy borders to your images.

Instructions

    1
    Select Image

Start up GIMP software and select an image to work with. As with any application you will need to experiment with some images to see if this process is one you may want to use. "Are you looking to know digital photography techniques that bring skilled photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would support you out in doing so. To become amazing pictures we first need to have to look at some imperative photography methods. The primary one I am able to share with you is determine about light. You can discover everything regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Anytime you uncover about light and in what technique it interacts with the direct environment then your pictures will get more beneficial..". In this case I chose a simple model portfolio picture shot against a white background.

    2
    Border Control Panel

From the FILTERS tab find and OPEN the Fuzzy Border application. This will display the control panel. You can select the color, border size and the amount of granularity or fuzziness you want in your border. You can also add a shadow to the border and control the weight of the shadow. As usual, GIMP provides a lot of control options to choose from.

    3
    Select Color

Select the color you want for your border. Click on the color button to open the color palette. A really great feature you can use is the eyedropper to select the color from the photograph. For this image I want a border that would blend in with the blue jeans in the lower part of the image. After you select your color, click OK.

    4
    Adjust Options

Select the other options. For this image I wanted a border that was wide with a large amount of granularity or fuzziness. I didn't want a shadow with such a wide border, but with smaller borders a drop shadow could work well. When you are finished selecting your options, click OK to render the image with a border.

    5
    Final Image

Here is the final image after the border has been rendered. To save the image, select SAVE from the file menu and save with a different name. If you don't like the border, click UNDO and start over. This one is OK, but it could use a little less granularity and a little more accuracy on color selection.
