How to Photograph Infants With Natural Light

When you use natural light to photograph infants you get a softer look than flash photography and you don't have to worry about red eyes. Natural light changes during the course of a day and if you learn to identify the different types of light you can take excellent infant photographs in the most flattering light. To take the best photographs of infants in natural light you will need to be prepared, act quickly and be ready for the unexpected.

Instructions

    1

Find a location near a window that provides a good amount of natural light. Set up a play area appropriate to the infant's age. Use a few props to set the scene, such as towels, flower pots, pillows or toys. When you choose props, limit them to a selected theme and limit their number. You don't want to clutter the scene.

    2

Pick a time of day that provides the kind of lighting you need. Light in the morning is colder, more blue and moodier. Just before sunset, natural light is warmer with more yellows, reds and oranges. Natural light just after sunrise and just before sunset has more vivid colors, shadows are weak and highlights are more subtle. Don't use direct sunlight.

    3

Set up the photo shoot area well ahead of the shoot. Babies have short attention spans, so make sure they are warm, dry, fed and feel secure. Newborns can be swaddled or held by their parents. "Do you need to know digital photography methods that carry experienced photographers to where they are today? Well, The Top Secret Photography Techniques would likely help you out in doing so. To obtain impressive images we initially need to have to look at some basic photography strategies. The most important one I am able to share with you is determine about light. You can come across everything regarding photography techniques on , The Top Secret Photography Techniques. Each time you learn about light and in what approach it interacts with the direct environment then your shots will get much better..". A photo shoot may quickly overstimulate an infant, so you need to act quickly. Don't expect the baby to smile on command. Be flexible and be prepared to photograph their range of emotions.

    4

Play peekaboo to attract their attention to the camera lens, but keep shooting when they are not looking directly at the lens. Newborns spend most of their time sleeping, and photographing them when they appear most comfortable can produce excellent portraits.

    5

Get down on their level. For the most candid photographs you need to see their world through their eyes. Give them an age-appropriate toy or a blanket to cozy up with. With more active infants, photograph them as they explore their surroundings, crawling towards a loved one or a favorite toy.
