How to Look Slim for a Photo Shoot

With a few tricks in posing for the camera and using certain camera settings, angles and accessories, you can look slimmer on a photo. When the photographer, camera and you as the subject are able to work together well, your photos will get the best compositions. This way, there is no need to do post-image editing to make you slimmer.

Instructions

    1

Wear dark clothes. If your body frame tends to show bulges on your clothes, avoid wearing fabrics that readily fold. Wearing something black helps avoid seeing folds in clothes. Also, avoid wearing fabrics that show busy or very bright patterns including stripes, plaids and large geometric shapes as they make your body look bulkier.

    2

Don't pull your head back too much when posing to avoid the chin from protruding on the photo. This makes you look fatter.

    3

Stand at 45 degrees to the left or right of the camera. This means that you are halfway between a full frontal and a full side pose. This significantly reduces your body and facial size. Generally, this makes your body look about one-sixth thinner.

    4

Use high-contrast lighting for the photo shoot so that your face will get more distinct shadow on the side of your face coming from the main source of light. Other than the shadowing effect, the highlights your face gets from the strong light source can also help you look slimmer.

    5

Avoid using a wide-angle lens for the camera as this significantly makes you look bulkier. When using such a lens for a full shot of the face, it also creates a kind of facial distortion. Preferably, use a lens with a focal length of 55mm or longer. The lower the numerical value, the longer the lens.

    6

Shoot the photo from a high angle. Shooting at a low angle results in an effect similar to using a wide-angle lens where you tend to pack more pounds. Even a slightly high-angle shot can significantly make you look slimmer compared to a shot with the camera situated below the face.
