How to Make Polarized Light Art

Polarized light is any light that is bounced off a non-metallic surface. Polarized light art refers to capturing this effect on film. The light creates a rainbow effect in the finished picture that is colorful and visually striking. This type of art can be a special niche for a photographer, or it can be done by school children as a project to learn about polarized light.

Instructions

Cut strips of tape that is three inches long.

Place the strips of tape across the lenses in a criss-cross pattern.

Place the piece of glass in-between the two lenses.

Tape the edges of the lenses and glass together.

Turn the flashlight on.

Hold the lenses and glass contraption over the lense of the flashlight. A rainbow will shine through the contraption.

Have a friend hold the contraption while you take pictures. To take the best photo, turn off the camera's flash. Put the camera on its ISO setting, attach the camera on a tripod and set the camera's timer.
