If not properly lit, the photograph may lose the intricate designs seen in the glass. With patience and by trying different angles, you can create a work of art from a piece of art.

Instructions

    1

Hang a dark-colored backdrop on a wall or against a chair. A backdrop can be a piece of fabric, bedsheets or a poster board. The exact color of the backdrop can vary according to the mood you wish to create; however, black or grey work well with glass art because they create a clear separation from the art and background.

    2

Carefully place the glass art in front of the backdrop. Determine the camera angles you will be using to see if you need to place an additional backdrop behind or beside the art.

    3

Use soft lighting, such as a lamp, to showcase the designs within the glass art. Do not use harsh lighting because the light will reflect into your camera lens and produce a blurred or over exposed image. Take your time and find the correct lighting situation. After you have placed the light, look at the glass art through your camera to ensure that the details you wish to capture are visible. Colored lights can add a dramatic or playful appeal to the glass art.

    4

Attach your camera to a tripod and set your digital camera's aperture to f-stop 8.0 and your exposure to -0.7. This allows the camera to capture small details while making the background much darker. Manually focus on the artwork before taking several practice snap shots.

    5

Review your snap shots to ensure the lighting and camera settings are proper. After you are satisfied, take at least 10 photographs before moving the camera or lighting equipment to a different angle.
