Different Kinds of Photo Shoots

Professional photographers have the ability to capture iconic images, from ordinary moments to extraordinary scenes and events. Photographers have preferences like any other artists, so the subject they choose to shoot depends on their abilities and preferences. A photo shoot for a photographer can range from taking pictures of a sunrise over a city's downtown skyline to taking photos of a wedding.

Scenic shoots take a photographer to many outdoor locations. The main subjects of these shoots are geographic formations like mountains, trees and plants, weather patterns, and animals who live in their natural environment. Depending on the location, the photographer may need special equipment, such as waterproof cameras for underwater photography. A photographer may also need to travel abroad to capture images from exotic locations.

A modeling shoot involves hiring a person who models for a career. The shoot has a variety of details that change according to the shoot. These might be whether the model brings clothing to the shoot, or if clothes are provided, as is the case in a fashion model shoot. A photographer often has the responsibility for selecting the location for the shoot, which can be either indoors or out.

A photo shoot of a model who is not a professional is a portrait shoot. These shoots can involve anything from adults and children to pets. A portrait shoot usually has a person or pet posing for the photographer. Sometimes props are incorporated into the shoot. These are objects that people or animals have near them as they pose for their shoot. While portrait shoots are often done indoors in a photographer's studio, they are also sometimes held outdoors at a location that can be selected either by the person requesting the portraits, or the photographer.

Photographers are sometimes commissioned to take photos of an object that companies would like to use in product labels or advertising. This type of shoot involves a photographer holding a shoot of an object. Subjects for product photography can range from off-road trucks driving around flinging mud to still photos of vegetables, bowls of cereal, or clothing that is not worn by a model.

Corporations who want to improve their image may hire a photographer to shoot their employees, the company's office environment, or the company's location. Sometimes a corporation engages in charitable acts that benefit the community or the environment, and may hire a photographer to capture images of these events for future use by the company.

Photographers are hired to take photographs of many different events, such as birthday parties, weddings, sporting events, and graduation ceremonies. A photographer may move around often as she shoots these events, since the subject of their photography is the action of the event. A photographer at an events shoot aims to capture the details of the event from a variety of angles and perspectives.
