    Select a manual mode, either P, S, A or M. The manual mode is selected by turning the Mode Dial located on top of the camera near the shutter-release button.

    The main screen on the camera should display "Shooting Menu." Scroll to the first option "Optimize Image" and press the "OK" button located in the center of the multi-selector button to the right of the screen.

    Scroll to "Custom" and press "OK".

    Scroll to "Tone Compensation," and select a low setting to control contrast. This is a useful tool in bright sunlight. Low settings allow you to see the detail in your photo even in bright light. Press "OK" when you are finished selecting your setting.
