Backgrounds are an important part of photography and learning how to work with them can be tricky. You may be setting up your own background for a portrait shoot or working with a natural background during outdoor photography. The background may be a subtle nuance but the colors and lighting can have a big impact on the photograph and camera. There are a few techniques to use when working with a light background.
Contrast
Ensuring that you have a lot of contrast is important for a photo with a light background. If there isn't contrast, the photo may look washed out and it may be hard to see the subject matter. Dark clothing works best if you are photographing a person. If you are photographing an object that is light in color, such as a mug or figurine, use dark colored props in the photograph. You can also change whether you are holding the camera so that it captures in landscape (wide) or portrait (tall).
