Make your your prices reasonable, most people who can afford a professional will go to them, at this stage you are building a reputation and portfolio so don't get greedy. Take more classes at your community college or a university. You don't have to have a degree to be a photographer, but to work for a big company you might need some schooling. Also, try and find intern positions with photographers, this will do wonders for your resume, as well as teach you so much you won't get in school. If you want to do portraits or weddings, slowly building a clientele and getting your name out there is the best way.
